The whole world as one library - this is the idea behind BookCrossing.

This is also the meaning of the "3 Rs"

Read, Register, Release.

BookCrossers register books at www.bookcrossing.com. Each book get an unique BCID (BookCrossing ID number) so those books can be tracked. Then the books are released: left on a park bench, "forgotten" in a coffee shop or on a train, or given to a friend. The person who finds the book can go to the BookCrossing site, enter the BCID and write as much or as little as he likes about where he found the book and what he thinks of it. And then, after reading the book (or not), the finder releases the book again...

So, this is the German Support Site, intended to help those German-speaking people without much knowledge of English. Besides, there exists some columns for specific German purposes (meet ups, bookring/ray/box, themed releases, special BookCrossing projects, et cetera.)

But..., some of the colums (see menu at your left) will be offered in English for our English-speaking visitors of this support site. So if you one day will visit the German-speaking regio (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), you can look over here to get a list of meetups in the next 30 days or a list of OBCZ. Also, you will find a download section with pictures (logo's) for use on books or in journals or release notes, especially for challenges. And of course, if there is need for German labels, you will be redirected to that section too.

What this Website doesn't do:

This support site will not be a one-to-one transformation of www.bookcrossing.com to the German language. In the first place, this is nearly impossible for technical reasons (BookCrossing.com is built dynamically from database entries) and secondly, in the near (or far) future BookCrossing.com will be localized, meaning that BookCrossing.com itself will be offered in German (and of course, other languages.)

Till then, the aim of this support site is to explain in German how BookCrossing.com functions, whereby it will be possible that some parts will be transformed one-to-one.
